Latest News | Fo Guang University Department of Psychology Follows National Mental Health Policy Development, Supports a "Prevention-Oriented" Care Approach

On April 23, 2025, the Taiwan Association of Clinical Psychologists (TACLP) attended a policy meeting at the invitation of Minister without Portfolio Chen Shih-Chung, along with officials from the Executive Yuan’s Department of Health and Labor Affairs and the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s Department of Mental Health. The meeting was a follow-up to the earlier visit to President Lai Ching-Te (announcement link), and focused on concrete discussions and planning around a “prevention-over-treatment” approach to national mental health policy.

The meeting emphasized the development of a more systematic and proactive mental health care model. The initial phase will focus on two key populations: maternal mental health and psycho-oncology. The plan includes building professional competencies, implementing risk screening and case management, and establishing interagency referral procedures, with the aim of creating a more integrated and comprehensive mental health support system.

Fo Guang University’s Department of Psychology continues to closely follow the development of national mental health policy and recognizes the critical role of clinical psychology in shaping public policy. Faculty member Dr. Huang Yun-Hsin, who currently serves as Deputy Secretary General of the Taiwan Association of Clinical Psychologists, also attended the meeting (pictured far left), contributing her expertise in bridging policy and clinical practice.

The Department remains committed to promoting public mental health, encouraging both faculty and students to broaden their professional horizons and actively engage in social responsibility through psychological expertise.
