Course Description:
Have you heard of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)? Many people misunderstand this therapy, thinking it is just moving the eyes back and forth with mysterious effects, without realizing that EMDR is supported by solid neuroscientific foundations and clinical evidence.

This lecture will:

  • Clarify common misconceptions about EMDR

  • Explore its underlying mechanisms and neurobiological basis in emotional memory

  • Explain the core therapeutic framework of EMDR—the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) Model, which views psychological disorders as stemming from “maladaptively stored memories,” and how EMDR facilitates “reprocessing” of past experiences

Additionally, participants will gain an introduction to the standard eight-phase EMDR therapy protocol, understanding a structured and systematic treatment process. The course will also highlight available EMDR continuing education resources and formal training pathways in Taiwan, providing guidance for professionals interested in pursuing practice in this field.
