Toward Psychoanalysis: The Inner Drama of the Therapist in the Consulting Room
This is a two-year, four-season series of courses offered by the Taiwan Psychoanalytic Association, which will systematically introduce the basic concepts, contemporary theories, clinical practices, and reflections of psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic-oriented psychotherapy. The goal is to provide a clear and comprehensive introduction for beginners.
Starting in Fall 2021, the Taipei session has undergone several years of operation and observation. Based on participant feedback, and with the introduction of the Saturday afternoon advanced clinical psychotherapy course, some adjustments have been made to the content of the two-year introductory program. While retaining key topics, the reading materials have been shortened for easier reading and explanation. One of the most significant adjustments includes including seemingly basic topics that are actually profound, such as: How to listen? What is the analytical attitude? How to build a therapeutic alliance with the client? What is empathy?
The course will include readings from different perspectives, including works from the US, France, and the UK. While only one viewpoint will be chosen for each class, this will serve as an introduction, and we hope to slowly think through these ideas. After completing the two-year program, participants should gain a general understanding of psychoanalysis, which will serve as a foundation for further enriching their psychological knowledge.
Course Schedule:
September 18 - December 4, 2024, every Wednesday evening from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, totaling 12 classes.
