Lecture Series|Fall 2025: Psychoanalytic-Oriented Psychotherapy in Taipei, Taichung, Tainan, and Kaohsiung

  • 2025-08-20

“A group of like-minded individuals had a delightful proposal: to come over one evening each week and talk about some psychoanalytic topics that interest us. I’ve already heard that some friends are coming. Will you join us too?”
— Vienna, Berggasse 19, 1902

In November 1902, Sigmund Freud extended this invitation to early enthusiasts of psychoanalysis, including Alfred Adler and other physicians, intellectuals, and artists. This marked the beginning of the weekly Wednesday evening meetings at Freud’s residence. Many famous clinical cases were first discussed in these gatherings, and numerous influential psychoanalytic theories and therapeutic techniques were conceived, debated, and refined. On this foundation, the Vienna Psychoanalytic Society was established in 1908.

Since 2005, the Taiwan Psychoanalytic Association (TPA) has been offering introductory courses on Wednesday evenings, now entering its twentieth year. Currently, these courses are held in Taipei, Taichung, Tainan, and Kaohsiung, with sessions in spring (March) and fall (September) each year. Each course consists of 12 classes per season, held on Wednesday evenings for 2 hours.

These courses systematically introduce the fundamentals of psychoanalysis and psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapy, including contemporary theories and reflections on clinical practice. They provide a clear and comprehensive introduction suitable for both interested laypersons and professionals.
